Decoding Masaba Guptas Gorgeous Wedding Look

In an intimate court marriage ceremony, multi-hyphenate Masaba Gupta married her actor beau Satyadeep Misra, whom she met on the sets of her eponymous Netflix show Masaba Masaba. With her next of kin and friends like family in attendance, Gupta’s nuptials were an all-heart affair. “Both Satyadeep and I wore House of Masaba’s new bridal collection, which has yet to be launched. I guess this is the launch!” revealed the designer.

Opting for a barfi pink raw silk lehenga with gold embroidery and a lime green dupatta with a wallflower print on it, the bride chose a more a maximal ensemble over the trending muted tones, making a case for the resurgence of colour to wedding wear. “I think that it’s all about doing tradition with a contemporary twist. It’s modern and versatile simultaneously, and it’s also very personal. It’s got an element of kitsch,“ said Gupta.

Both the bride and groom wore House of Masaba’s new bridal collection, which has yet to be launched. Gupta had been working on this collection for a long time now, and her vision for the collection entailed smashing the idea that Indian brides should stick to wearing dull pastel colours like whites, and ivory. She revealed that since India is a country of celebration and colour, the wedding wear should reflect that.

All her family members and friends were also seen donning outfits from her brand. The designer put a lot of thought into creating her wedding trousseau and the symbolism she incorporated in her outfit didn’t go unnoticed. Apart from the radiant lehenga that featured embroidered ‘Paan-Patti’ detailing, she wore a matching sequin bustier with simple embroidery and teamed it up with two dupattas.

Lehenga with a consciously curated border

As she explained in her Instagram post, Gupta designed the border of the lehenga to symbolise the balance between marriage and ambition for a woman. “The custom border has the first ever Masaba Motif – ‘the palm’ & the ‘chidiya’ which celebrates the union of tradition & freedom. A sign that women can believe in the institution of marriage yet follow their hearts & voice their thoughts freely,” she wrote on Instagram.

Gupta was seen wearing a barfi pink raw silk lehenga with gold embroidery and a lime green dupatta with a dainty and feminine wallflower print on it. The print featured small booties all across in the organza, and had a fully sequined border. While the paan pattis and palm motifs together signified embracing tradition with a contemporary twist, her bridal attire exuded an overall element of kitsch. The piece also had a veil attached to her blouse, which she could simply pin off when required.

Bridal jewellery inspired by South Indian traditions

The bride teamed up her beautiful lehenga and two dupattas with customised gold and silver jewellery. She wore moon and star-inspired pins in her hair, as her tribute to the South Indian headgear. The designer explained her motivation behind choosing the motifs. She wrote, “I wanted a customised ‘Chand Taara’ inspired by South Indian headgear because the sun is energy – the protector & giver of life. And the various phases of the moon affect us in ways we don’t even recognise. We are driven by nature & energised by it. May we never forget that,” she wrote.

Gupta honoured the special relationship she shares with her mother, Neena Gupta, and also wore some of the vintage jewellery pieces that the latter had collected over the years.

A minimalist beauty look

Gupta’s hair and makeup were fairly simple with copious amounts of kajal in her lower lash line and simple, slicked-back, middle-parted hair tied into a braid in the back. The bride opted for a simple, clean makeup look featuring subtle pink, glossy lips, kohl-rimmed eyes, brushed brows, lots of blush and a glowy, light base. “I think brides must wear kajal; it’s a very special day to do your shringar and dress up,” she shared.
